CARMEN PEREZ-NARBON

I started playing golf 13 years ago when I was 10. I was introduced to this sport by a good friend of mine who told me to try and hit a golf ball while she was at the driving range with the rest of the kids. I can still remember that moment…my golf ball did not move from the ground but my golf club flew away!! But I liked it a lot!

I suggested to my parents the possibility of going to a summer golf camp and learn how to play golf. So, that summer I spent a whole month learning English and golf in the north of Spain. It was fun and I was improving very quickly. When I came back home I started taking lessons at my Golf Club (Escorpión Golf Club in Valencia) and to participate in many tournaments. My teacher could see that I had a special talent and motivated me to take it in a more serious way. So that is what I did!

I spent more time on the golf course and took part in many tournaments around Spain playing with the best players in the country. Due to my improvements, I became part of the Spanish Amateur team and started playing around Europe. I have to say that it has been a wonderful experience and it is definitely going to help me during my professional career.

PRACTICE PROGRAM: 30 min putts - 30 min short game - 30 min long game - Play a few holes

On Wednesday 31st August 2011 Carmen and Glenn met at La Manga Golf resort for a day’s session.  An hour’s putting training and then onto the South course.  Carmen is preparing for the Ladies Tour Q school in January 2012.

Today, we worked on her set up and how important it is to have a near perfect alignment.  I am not just talking about her feet  pointing in the right way but her shoulders, hips, knees, everything.  If one part of our body is out of position we will not be able to putt consistently.  Carmen’s head sits behind the ball at times and it needs to be centre to give an effective arch of the putter – repeatability!

How we did it?  A simple movement like this will help no end.  The drill – to get the chin to drop down to the centre of breast bone/sternum.  This will ensure that the head is central.  Hey presto, this worked for Carmen and she was able to set consistently and enable an effective & positive stroke that stayed true to its target. Excellent!

This is the start of her hard work and as a team we can make sure Carmen is ready.  Her swing is fantastic and now her short game is on the way.  She you in two weeks Carmen, keep up the hard work.

If you wish to know more about Carmen’s golf or you feel you would love to help sponsor her or any of the players I work with please contact me on info@glennbillington.co.uk

Carmen was having difficulties with her putting and she was finding it difficult to get into a square set up.  As a result she was unable to achieve a solid square impact with the putter.

Carmen Perez GolfAs a result we checked the following: -

Example of stills attached for ‘Before’ and ‘after’ set up.

1. See the still of Carmen when she first arrived at the studio.  The spine angle was not vertical and caused her to set up into a position where the club path was a neutral one.  The stroke was uncontrollable and mostly an in to out stroke, a feeling similar to a push.

2. The second still is Carmen standing tall and you can now see how the spine angle is vertical, a great position for a natural path for the putter.

3. The third still with Carmen addressing the ball will see the spine angle now in a more suitable position allowing the shoulders to rock and allow the putter to act in neutral more natural movement.
We now achieve an ‘in to square to in path’

This one element of putting is so vital, we need to be aware that a correctly positioned spine angle will allow us to putt on a more true path.
